Our Patio

>> Sunday, April 5, 2009

Dauge and I have been talking about what we were going to do with our backyard for sometime now. Our builder offered the option of a deck - 8x10, not included with the house...not what we wanted at all.

We finally decided that we wanted to do a patio with paver stones and we wanted it to go across the whole back of the house. Here is a picture of our backyard before all of the commotion.

And here is a close up of what we were using for steps. Haha. 4 cinder block will always work!

The delivery came on a Monday after it had rained all weekend. We were really excited to get home on Monday from work and see our pavers in the backyard!

On day 2 they came out and excavated all of the dirt and grass from the area where they were going to put the patio in. They made sure to cover it with a trap - which was a good idea because the rain poured down that night into Wednesday morning. No work happened on Wednesday - so that made us a little disappointed.

On Thursday they came back and finished the excavating and put up the retaining wall. To get a level patio we had to have a retaining wall since our yard slopes so much on the side. It turned out really well. And as you can see our yard is really muddy from all the rain and all the work!

On Friday the weather was a-maz-ing and the guys got a lot of work done and finished the base of the patio. Yeah! We were pretty excited to see the finished product. And we're even more excited that we have an outdoor living space. We used to put our tailgating chairs in the back yard and just sit in the grass when the weather was nice. Now we have somewhere to really sit!

We put out the the tiki torches that we got as wedding gifts from my sister and had Mark and Jean over for some dinner on the patio. We don't have patio furniture yet - so we pulled out the tailgating chairs and camped out. The weather was perfect. We are looking forward to many, many more days sitting on the patio in the evenings!

How could you trade those awesome steps in for that hideous patio? What were you thinking? I guess now the only thing to fix the patio would be to get one of those cable spools for a table! -Kevin & Mia

That looks super nifty. And I have to say the torches = a nice touch.

...and I think a cable spool table would be awesome! Then again I'm still in college and think all that nifty, crafty stuff is awesome.
